About

Christopher San Nicolas is a Photographer from Long Beach, CA. After completing a Studio Art Minor (along with a BS in Mechanical Engineering) from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, he started photographing as a means to engage with and genuinely depict life as it unfolds in his communities. His work often features spontaneous moments of connection, communication, and public expression to explore the means, reasons, and aesthetic contexts involved in those endeavors.

Christopher works full-time as a CAD/CAM Engineer in Santa Ana California and spends his time after work and on weekends photographing in Southern California. Through his background in studying visual arts, he draws inspiration from the immaculately constructed and narratively self-evident works of Renaissance painters as well as the vapid inquisitiveness and dogmatic ethos of the New Documents and Magnum photographers.

As such, Christopher's style moves between lyric chaos, attentive observation, and technical order but is securely rooted in curiosity for the human experience. Much of his curiosity comes from growing up as a first-generation AA/PI American in a largely hierarchical and duty-focused home while striving to fit into the individualist culture of the United States during the burgeoning Internet Age.
